Biography

Elizabeth was born about 1762. She passed away about 1794. She was the first wife of Captain Moses Moore.[1][2]

The Moore reference lists her paternal ancestors (listed latest first) as Chreinyonce, John, Benjamin, John. It gives her parents as Chreinyonce Van Cleve and Penelope Phillips (Philip) of Lawrence, New Jersey. The elder John is said to have come from Amsterdam, Holland, settled at New Utrecht, and been a patentee of that place. Moses had children Col. Van Cleve (abt. 1780-1824), Coryell (d. 1846), Hon. Ely (1798-1860), and Sarah. Elizabeth is the mother of only the first of these, as she died before the others were born.[2]

Research Notes

Neither the Hunterdon county nor the Moore books give specific dates for Elizabeth. The birth date is from FindAGrave[3], but without other sources. She had a son in 1780, and her husband remarried 25 Feb 1783.[4] I have estimated her death in 1782 from those dates.
